Intrauterine Contraceptive Devices (IUD)

Certain devices placed inside the womb such as the Copper IUD coil provide good contraceptive function and most women tolerate these well. In certain women, the non hormonal coil might cause irregular or heavy bleeding and pain. In this group of patients a discussion will be necessary to decide on combining alternative treatments to minimise the side effects of the coil, or whether, if appropriate, a change in contraceptive method is advisable or appropriate.
